Meet Carmen Morreale, Master Technician at
CJ’s Sewing Machine Service
Carmen Morreale’s journey into the world of sewing machine repair began at an early age, driven by curiosity and a knack for mechanics. As the story goes, Carmen received a toy tool kit for Christmas at the age of 8. He promptly used it to disassemble the screws from the kitchen chairs, which led to an unfortunate collapse when his mother, carrying his sister, sat down. Recognizing his natural aptitude, Carmen’s father, Vincent Morreale—founder of Mor Real Sewing Machine Centers—introduced him to the family business, where Carmen began learning how to clean and disassemble sewing machines.
By 1967, Carmen’s expertise had already taken him across the globe. During a visit to the Viking Sewing Machine Factory in Husqvarna, Sweden, Carmen met with lead engineers, offering suggestions for repair procedures and design improvements. His contributions were so impactful that he received a special commendation from the Husqvarna Factory for advancing technical design and repair methodologies.
In the early 1970s, Carmen introduced Bernina Sewing Machines to the New England market. Under his leadership, the sales organization became the top performer in the region for three consecutive years. Carmen also played a pivotal role in establishing the largest independent sewing machine repair facility on the East Coast, Mor Real Sewing Machine Centers, which was recognized by Boston Magazine as “Best of Boston for Sewing Machine Repairs” in 1989.
Carmen’s training spans both the U.S. and Europe, with certifications in repairing Bernina, Viking, Elna, Janome/New Home, Pfaff, and Babylock machines. He specializes in servicing sergers, as well as older and vintage sewing machines, ensuring that every piece—whether modern or classic—operates.
In addition to his technical expertise, Carmen has shared his knowledge with others, conducting seminars on sewing machine mechanics for local quilting and sewing guilds. His dedication to quality and craftsmanship has earned him a reputation as a trusted authority in the industry.
